Expenses often crop up unannounced. A medical emergency, unexpected car repairs, or an unexpectedly high electricity bill can drain out the last of your salary for the month. A Credit Card can prove immensely helpful in such situations. You can swipe your card, pay for your necessities, and save your salary in your bank account.
Moreover, Credit Cards aren’t just a source of emergency cash. They come with many features and benefits that can be rewarding and help cover the extra spends. These cards can even help you save money! Let us look at some features of a Credit Card that you may not be aware of.
Enjoy exclusive offers and discounts
One of the biggest advantages of having a Credit Card is that you can split large expenses into smaller, affordable EMIs. And that’s not the only benefit of Credit Cards. Some of the best cards also offer you unique discounts, rewards, and exclusive members-only access. For instance, certain Credit Cards offer airport lounge benefits and complimentary memberships and subscriptions for selected brands.
Thanks to card-specific offers and multiple CashBack schemes, making a purchase using a Credit Card can help you save more money. Moreover, benefits such as enhanced Air Miles and better rewards make flashing a Credit Card smarter and often more economical than transacting with other means.
Avail customised benefits
Certain Credit Card providers, such as HDFC Bank, offer multiple card options so you can choose one that suits your lifestyle. For example, if you frequently fly, shop online, go out for movies, order food or even dine out, you can opt for an HDFC Bank Millennia Credit Card. This card offers:
5% CashBack on Amazon, BookMyShow, Cult. Fit, Flipkart, Myntra, Sony Liv, Swiggy, Tata Cliq, Uber and Zomato
1% CashBack on all other spends, including EMIs and wallet reloads (except fuel)
Up to 20% discount at partner restaurants via Dineout
INR 1000 worth gift vouchers on spends of INR 1,00,000 and above in each calendar quarter
With the help of this Credit Card, you can also travel across India comfortably by availing 8 complimentary domestic airport lounges.

Reversing fraudulent transactions
In case of Debit Card theft or forgery, your money is instantly debited from your account. Once it is gone, retrieving that money can be a huge challenge.
On the other hand, if you suspect Credit Card-related fraud, you just need to inform your bank and they will immediately block your card. Most Credit Card companies give you the benefit of zero liability in case the unauthorised transaction happened due to negligence from their side. If the transaction happened due to the customer’s negligence, the bank still offers a window of three business days to report the transaction. If reported within this timeframe, the customer enjoys zero liability. This means that if you report an unauthorised Credit Card transaction within the specified timeframe, you don’t have to pay for it.
Improving credit score
Maintaining a good credit score is a financial necessity as it affects your eligibility for loans. Debit Cards are not factored in while calculating your credit score, but a Credit Card is. You can instantly boost your credit score by:
Paying your Credit Card bills on time
Keeping credit utilisation under 30%
Paying Credit Card bills in full
